This, I believe, is the fastest way for a WordPress beginner to install plugins. I’m going to show some other ways so you could have some understanding on how WordPress works.

Downloading Your Plugin

I’m not a developer so when I get stuck on something, I’ll check to see if there’s a plugin I could use. I either go to Google and search for the solution I’m having issues on, or I go to WordPress.org and see if there’s a plugin I could use. Once I find the plugin I want to use I’ll download it and go to my dashboard and then upload the plugin. This is the way I did it.

Again under plugins, click add new.

Click on upload then choose file. Locate your plugin you finish downloading. The plugin is in a zip file.

Now you know how to install it up via the upload function. WordPress makes it very simple and easy to use so the novice wont get discourage.

Installing Through FTP Like Filezilla

This is a more direct process to install WordPress plugins. If you never used a FTP application the best one I’ve been using is called FileZilla. You could always search on Google for a quick tutorial on how to use it. Is pretty much straight forward. You just need the FTP login credentials, you could ask your web host for some guidance.  Once you have your login information, you would need to connect to your server.

On the right you will see your website’s folders. Find and click on Public_html folder.

Now you’re ready to drag your plugin folder from your desktop to your website’s server. When you downloaded the plugin it came as a zip file. You’ll need to extract the content folder in order for this to work.

Locate the folder you just extracted. Now click and drag the folder to the right. Keep in mind don’t highlight another folder or you’ll end moving it to that location.

Go back to your dashboard, and in your plugin section if you see your plugin in there. You have successfully installed it. Now activate and enjoy.
